Great Value, and Just What a Beginner Needs to Get Started
This was the first fly rod that I ever purchased. After fly fishing for the first time on borrowed equipment, I was immediately 'hooked' and wanted to get my own setup. However, the sheer amount of products available for all different prices was overwhelming. Rods, reels, line, backing...where to begin?
Luckily I stumbled across this setup by Wright & McGill. You can literally purchase this kit and be fishing on a river or lake within minutes. The backing and fly line is already on the spool, no having to tie it yourself. There are several useful little tools as well (the line snips are the ones I use the most frequently) and it even comes with a few flies. I would say that the one thing that it's missing is floatant, but that can be purchased at any fly shop.
Even the included DVD is useful, and gives you some important tips to get you started.
I estimate that I've caught at least 400 trout of all species and sizes on this rod over the years,...
great deal
love it...only issue is the line is not so great but easy to replace but all the goodies make up for it
Great newbie outfit
This starter set has everything necessary to start fly fishing. I got help from a friend who has been instructing fly fishing for 30 years. When he went over the components, knowing what I had paid, he complemented me on making a great decision, The flies included are good quality, made by Umpqua and each pattern a classic trout fly. I am spending many hours exploring the local trout habitat, as well as planning to get in some bass fishing this summer.
