Use with a circuit breaker
MinnKota motors are well made. My previous model lasted 8 years of good service. In the end, the motor overheated and burnt out. I have read reviews which recommend placing a MinnKota circuit breaker between the battery and the motor, and this is what I have done hoping to avoid another high temp burn out of the interior circuits of the motor.
This model can be used in either salt or fresh water which is a good feature and not that much more expensive if you are considering a trip to salt water. There was not that much difference in price between my previous 55 pound thrust fresh water and this 50 pound thrust motor; the difference in performance was also not significant to me.
I love this trolling motor!!
I have a 13' Boston Whaler and I can go about 3 to 4 mph in calm water on the highest setting. It has been super reliable when I'm fishing in skinny water in the Chesapeake Bay. I feel bad for the other reviewer, but I haven't had any issues so far. I've been using mine for four months.
I decided that the extra features for the next version weren't worth $200.
I have mine hooked up to a WalMart EverMaxx 29 battery.
great motor for trolling
I bought this motor to attach to my sea eagle paddleski. It is awesome. Great for fishing and touring on gentle waters.
